The new soulslike action RPG game Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty developed by Team Ninja launched yesterday appears to be a hit in terms of player counts, according to data from SteamDB, having already reached a peak of about 75,906 concurrent users and currently ranking sixth in the list of the top-selling games on Steam.

Surprisingly Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty also has mostly negative reviews on Steam (over 38% of reviews) due to its poor mouse and keyboard controls (with the keyboard, you can only move the horizontal axis) and the performance issues (low FPS and stuttering), which has not been solved in the final version.

Most of the positive reviews are given mainly by players with gamepads who do not have many performance problems since the general of these positive reviews claim that Wo Long is a great successor to the Nioh saga, with new combat and with many new additions to the souls-like genre.

Let’s compare it to Nioh 2, which arrived on PC eleven months after its release on PlayStation 4. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has almost twice as many concurrent users on Steam (41,325 vs. 75,906), and possibly this number will increase over the weekend.

On the other hand, while WILD HEARTS was developed by Omega Force and KOEI TECMO (not Team Ninja) but published by EA Originals, it reached only 28,511 concurrent players.

Like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, WILD HEARTS mostly had negative reviews (47% positive out of 6,389) due to its poor performance and stuttering problems on less powerful PCs.

Evidently, there are plenty of PC users, but the ports of Japanese games (especially those of KOEI TECMO) still have to improve. Without going any further, NINJA GAIDEN: Master Collection never received keyboard and mouse support on Steam.

Wo Long receives support for Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS in an upcoming update, along with a maximum frame rate of 120 FPS and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), but the game is currently locked at 60 FPS.

The game is not verified for Steam Deck at the moment. These things should have been in the game at its official launch on March 3rd, as it has cost KOEI TECMO dearly, but probably not as much as they thought it would.
