Xbox has become synonymous with studio acquisitions over the past few years. The brand has been working on course correcting, and studio acquisitions have been an integral part of the process. Game Pass has also done wonders for Xbox and the team could be headed towards dominating the current generation if things continue like this.
Recently, Xbox announced a showcase for their upcoming games, scheduled for June 12. The summer season is usually the most busy time for game reveals. However, Xbox has been the first to make an announcement of some sorts. PlayStation and Nintendo have not come forward with any announcement at the moment. Perhaps, this is a sign of confidence from Xbox. The showcase focuses on Bethesda in particular, but will also include other studios owned by the brand.
However, it seems like the Xbox showcase will be much bigger than initially expected. Speaking on episode 23 of PM in the PM podcast, Rand al Thor revealed an interesting bit of information about the upcoming showcase. Going by his words, the Xbox showcase will have a lot to offer.
As the video shows, Rand stated that he had heard almost every studio submitted something for the Xbox showcase. He said,
“I did hear, not that long ago, almost virtually every studio submitted something for the show. Some studios submitted multiple things.”
If true, this could mean that Xbox is gearing up to shake the entire industry. They now own several studios, and could soon see a surge in their first party line-up if this news is to be believed. This would hint at games like Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, and Hellblade2 potentially make an appearance at the show, as well as a plethora of new announcements from Microsoft’s studios.
Furthermore, many games could also receive full length gameplay demos at the show. Last year, Bethesda revealed Redfall. The game is a first person-shooter being developed by Arkane Studios. Given the show’s focus on Bethesda titles, it would not be surprising to see gameplay from Arkane’s upcoming title. Back in 2020, a new entry in the Fable franchise was also revealed. The highly anticipated game has not been talked about much since then. Perhaps, the team is looking to break their silence in June.
It seems like the showcase will be a game changer for Microsoft and Xbox. Over the last generation, Xbox has struggled to produce quality exclusives that can keep up with the likes of Sony’s first party titles. However, things appear to be changing. With several new projects in the works, Xbox appears to be focused on delivering quality first party titles. Moreover, Game Pass continues to be an extremely good offering in terms of value. The team at Xbox has already promised day one releases for future exclusives. This will introduce a whole new audience to Microsoft’s upcoming games and could just be the edge they need over Sony in the gaming industry.
