The past few weeks have been a glimpse of paradise for gamers. Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes were announced. Also, a new addition to the Witcher series has been announced. The newly launched Unreal Engine is also promising to bring the kind of realism to gaming that has never been seen before. And, here is the latest on our beloved explorer Lara Croft. As the trend of remasters and remakes is gaining pace we might allegedly be getting a new Tomb Raider 1 reboot as well. The game series has already been renewed in the form of 2008’s Tomb Raider that kick-started the current trilogy. So, if we are getting a reboot it will be sort of a second time.
A couple of days ago, at the State of Unreal event, Crystal Dynamics announced they’re working on a new Tomb Raider game, which will be powered by the Unreal Engine 5. While many fans were overjoyed to see the explorer return, many also failed to notice a strange tiny alteration in the official Tomb Raider account on social media. Because, unlike other social media platforms, Twitter does not alert users when an account makes a cosmetic modification to their profile. The first possible sign of the new Tomb Raider game was right under our nose.
If we head over to the official Twitter account of Tomb Raider, we can see that the Cover image is now from the 1996 Tomb Raider 1. This has put everyone into tons of speculations that the new game could be a direct reboot of the first game or it could be a completely different thing altogether along with the announced game. Moreover, the official logo for the new game has also been announced, which we can see above, and it is very reminiscent of Tomb Raider 1. Although Crystal Dynamics has provided us with nothing, not even the release date, these subtle hints could lead to direct references for the next game.
The official Twitter account also stated that:
Crystal Dynamics is incredibly excited about the future of Unreal and how it will help us take our storytelling to the next level. That's why we're proud to announce that our next #tombraider game is being built on Unreal Engine 5! pic.twitter.com/UFMiWzJAZc

The storytelling part also leads us to believe that the game might present us with a fresh new script and have nothing to do with the first part and if the game is indeed getting renewed it might be a different game from the one announced previously on the State of Unreal event.
Lastly, everything we discussed is based entirely on speculations. There has been no confirmation by Crystal Dynamics about anything, so take this news with a pinch of salt. The only two things that have been official so far are that a new game is being launched on the Unreal Engine 5 and the other being its official cover art.
We will have to wait and see if these speculations are based purely on guesswork or if they turn out to be true. Stay tuned for any latest news on the topic, and we will keep an eye out for it.
