The Last of Us Part 2 is Naughty Dog’s latest original release from three years ago. Serving as one of the PS4’s final first-party games, the game required $200 million to produce and became an instant classic for the console.
While the game is three years old, Naughty Dog appears to be bringing it back soon. Not too long ago, the game’s composer pointed to a remaster for the PS5. Following his statement, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has shown up on LinkedIn.
Why it matters: PlayStation has taken a similar approach for many of its PS4 games, notably Marvel’s Spider-Man. The gaming giant is also rumored to be working on a remaster for Horizon Forbidden West.
The remaster was spotted on the LinkedIn profile of Mark Pajarillo, a Lead Outsource Artist from Naughty Dog. The developer has worked for the studio since 2021, highlighting his projects on LinkedIn.
His LinkedIn profile states that he was responsible for two projects, The Last of Us Part 1 and:
“The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.”
Combining the previous evidence from the game’s composer, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered appears to be in development.
In our opinion, The Last of Us Part 2 is already a top-tier experience from the last generation and hardly requires a remaster. However, another release could bring a few more features to the game.
PlayStation is very likely to be working on a PC port for the game. In this case, a remaster coinciding with the PC release would help bring a few new players to the game and allow Naughty Dog developers to further familiarize themselves with the PS5 hardware.
The addition of haptic feedback and minimal loading times would also enhance an already well-received game.
Apart from the remaster, Naughty Dog is rumored to have begun work on The Last of Us Part 3.
However, the studio’s previously announced standalone multiplayer release for the franchise is in trouble. Following various layoffs, a report states the project has been axed.
The developer’s profile suggests The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has been in development for over a year. Therefore, the new edition of the game may be released next year alongside a PC port.
