Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has proven incapable of retaining its small launch audience. With Rocksteady failing to deliver on expectations, thousands recently went back to Batman Arkham Knight.
However, it seems the entire Batman Arkham trilogy is going through a resurgence on Steam. All three games are now ahead of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in terms of player counts on the platform.
Why it matters: The Batman Arkham trilogy remains at the top of superhero games, making the games enticing to revisit all these years later.
At the time of writing, around 450 players are currently playing the recent Suicide Squad title, and around 900 players have visited the game in the last 24 hours.
The game has already lost most of its players in less than a month since its release, which is a disaster for a live-service release. Meanwhile, 2009’s Batman Arkham Asylum has more players, with 1,500 active in the game at the time of writing.
This is 3x higher than Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s concurrent player count. Similarly, Batman Arkham City currently boasts over 1,200 active players. Both games also have higher daily concurrent peaks.
As expected, Batman Arkham Knight is no different. With around 3,500 concurrent players, this title completes the trilogy of Batman Arkham games, ensuring that all games are ahead of Rocksteady Studios’ latest release.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is also the worst release from the developer. While the team hopes to redeem the game through future updates, the latest patch has made the game worse for many players.
According to various users on Reddit and Twitter, the update has led to crashing and stability problems. Players are unable to load into the game, making an already disappointing experience even worse.
As Rocksteady Studios works toward addressing the current problems and core issues with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, we hope the team uses this feedback for its future direction.
A live-service game with 9 hours of story and all the typical microtransaction trends was the last thing anybody wanted from Rocksteady Studios. While there is merit in the team’s intentions to branch out, this genre was not suitable for another major superhero title.
Hopefully, Rocksteady Studios will use this release to pivot toward single-player games again, returning to its strengths in the process of doing so.
