Starfield and AMD announced their official partnership last month. The announcement confirmed Bethesda would collaborate with the company to integrate technologies like FSR 2.0 into the game.
AMD is also offering a bundle for the game, allowing new Ryzen 7000 and Radeon GPU buyers to gain access to the game. Following these announcements, the company has released a new banner that recommends AMD hardware for the RPG.
According to AMD, players looking for the best Starfield experience should use a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Radeon RX 7900 XT.
Why it matters: Starfield is Bethesda’s most ambitious RPG, and the PC requirements are no slouch. This could mean that many modern PC builds may struggle to run the game at ideal settings.
As seen above, AMD recommends hardware that is almost the most expensive and strongest from the gaming giant’s current lineup.
The Ryzen 7 7800X3D offers incredible CPU performance and is perfect for today’s CPU-demanding titles. On the other hand, the Radeon RX 7900 XT is a great product for 4K gaming.
Fans should also note the Radeon RX 7900 XT offers 20GB of VRAM. This could mean Starfield will become another VRAM-hungry game in 2023, forcing users with expensive hardware like the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti to lower settings.
The CPU requirements also provide more evidence for the potential CPU bottleneck on consoles. Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed Starfield is locked at 30FPS on Xbox Series S|X.
AMD recommends the Ryzen 5 7600 for 1080p users, and this processor is significantly better than the CPU found in the Xbox Series S|X. Therefore, it is unsurprising that the consoles cannot offer a 60FPS experience with the game.
Previously, it was also confirmed that Starfield would require over 100GB of free space.
However, these demanding requirements could lead to concerns about poor optimizations. Microsoft and Bethesda Game Studios are confident in the game, with Matt Booty claiming it would ship with the least amount of bugs of any Bethesda title.
PC gamers can only hope this improvement translates to PC performance and Starfield does not join the massive list of poor PC ports released in 2023.
