- Star Wars Outlaws has been rated again.
- The new rating points to online interactivity, hinting at the existence of microtransactions.
- These will likely be relegated to cosmetics for customization.
Star Wars Outlaws is nearly upon us, and the excitement is reaching new levels with each passing day. Not too long ago, the game was rated in South Korea, hinting at a forthcoming release date.
Providing further evidence for this release, the game has been rated again. The latest rating comes from the Australian Board, but it points to a potential red flag. According to this rating, Star Wars Outlaws will likely feature microtransactions.
Why it matters: Microtransactions are all too common in the gaming industry, seemingly becoming the new norm.
According to the rating, Star Wars Outlaws features ‘online interactivity.’ While this may seem to be a hint at an online component at first, Assassin’s Creed Mirage features a similar tag in its rating.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage included cosmetic microtransactions. This likely means Ubisoft intends to follow a similar trend, offering cosmetic items in a premium store for character customization.
Past job listings have also hinted at monetization for Massive Entertainment’s title. However, it remains to be seen whether these will prove intrusive to the single-player experience.
While these microtransactions are unlikely to severely impact the game in the long run, it is still disappointing to see Ubisoft forcing this element into nearly all of its games.
The title is shaping up to be the most exciting game this franchise has produced, especially for those fond of open-worlds. Even Nvidia has chimed in, expressing its excitement about the project.
Therefore, we remain open-minded about the project.
With two back-to-back ratings, a launch in 2024 is more or less a given. Fans expect the marketing cycle to start in May, with Star Wars Day on May 4 providing Ubisoft the perfect opportunity to reveal more exciting gameplay.
