Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is shaping up to be a treat for fans of FPS games. Promising breathtaking visuals with Unreal Engine 5 and heartstopping survival gameplay, the latest entry in the popular franchise has a lot to offer.
However, studio GSC Game World has faced various challenges along the way, leading to several hurdles in development. Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl was initially announced for a 2023 release, with a recent listing hinting at a potential release on December 1.
However, these hurdles have led to a delay. The studio has officially confirmed that the anticipated FPS is targeting a Q1 2024 release.
Why it matters: Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a major timed exclusive for Xbox Series S|X consoles and an integral title for Xbox Game Pass.
A new document from the studio highlights various elements of the latest entry in the Stalker franchise.
In addition to punchy shooting mechanics and jaw-dropping visuals, players can expect a unique blend of horror and survival mechanics for an engaging first-person shooter experience.
Exploration plays a major part in bringing the newest world of Stalker to life. Players are encouraged to scour each area for valuable resources like food, drinks, and meds as they prepare to survive the harsh reality of a post-apocalyptic world.
Recently, Phil Spencer commented on GSC Game World’s work, praising the team for making it through very difficult conditions and bringing Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl to Gamescom. He also said:
“They’re literally downloading a build as I’m sitting here, trying to put the last touches on their game.”
This led to hopes that the studio would be able to meet the previously announced 2023 release window. While this has not happened, the delay should ensure that fans get to play Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl in its best state at launch.
The new announcement also confirms that Microsoft will be able to kick off 2024 with an exciting release for Xbox users.
Recently, the gaming giant confirmed that Starfield was just the beginning of its first-party lineup. While Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is not a first-party release, it will continue Microsoft’s momentum of console exclusives after games like Starfield and Forza Motorsport in 2023.
