Story Highlight
  • Skull and Bones has been surrounded by negativity since its launch.
  • However, Ubisoft says it achieved record player engagement.
  • It has the second-highest average daily playtime from Ubisoft.

Skull and Bones, launching without basic features, has spurred an unexpected Assassin’s Creed 4 resurgence. With the game failing to achieve 1 million players, many expected Ubisoft to be unhappy with the results.

However, the publisher’s latest statement paints a completely different picture. According to Ubisoft, Skull and Bones has achieved record player engagement.

Why it matters: This release came out after years of challenges and hurdles for the developers, making this record a major deal for everyone involved in the project.

Ubisoft has just announced the post-launch campaign for the game, which kicks off with the launch of season 1. During the same press release, it confirmed the new player engagement record.

Skull and Bones has achieved record player engagement, with over four hours of average daily playtime.

This daily playtime makes the live-service title Ubisoft’s second most-played release. While the publisher has not confirmed sales figures or player counts, these comments are encouraging for Skull and Bones.

Ubisoft might now increase its investment in future support. The full roadmap for the first year has already been revealed, highlighting more factions, activities, and new sea monsters.

Many fans recently stated that Skull and Bones does not justify its $70 price. However, Ubisoft seems content with the performance so far, making it a respectable addition to the studio’s lineup for 2024.

The publisher has also claimed that Skull and Bones has a lot of longevity. It remains to be seen whether this will end up being true a few months down the line, but it appears the live-service title is off to a solid start.

The post-launch content comes with different seasonal events, new world events, higher-tier equipment, and more. More details about the roadmap can be found on Ubisoft’s official website.

Season 1 is dubbed Raging Tides and focuses on Philippe La Peste. Similar figures will show up in the following seasons, with each offering its own pirates to learn about and overthrow.
