The Saints Row reboot is quickly approaching its first anniversary later this month. Following a long hiatus, developer Volition hoped to revive the series with a reboot, taking it in a fresh direction.
However, the reboot was poorly received, and recent Embracer Group reports revealed that Saints Row led to massive losses for the company. Nonetheless, the game is still being supported, and its final expansion is on track for an August 8 release.
Furthermore, the title is confirmed to be arriving on Steam on August 24.
Why it matters: Steam is the dominant PC storefront and platform of choice for millions of gamers worldwide. Therefore, many PC users prefer to wait for exclusive titles to arrive on Steam.

In addition to the new direction, Saints Row was criticized for a plethora of bugs.
However, Steam users will receive the most polished version of the game. Since release, Volition has released various patches for the game, introducing performance improvements and bug fixes.
Players looking to buy the complete package will also have the option to try the three expansions instead of having to wait for a year like day-one buyers. Nonetheless, this move could help Embracer Group bring the game to a new audience.
The recent Embracer group report hints at a different approach for titles moving forward. Games like Saints Row should become infrequent, with the company hoping to release more quality games in the coming years. However, this also means that the future of the franchise remains uncertain for now.
