- Sabrent could be gearing up to debut its next-generation Rocket 5 Plus SSD.
- This SSD is expected to hit speeds of 14GB/s, thanks to a new controller from Phison.
- The new storage could be revealed as early as CES in January.
SSD technology has evolved at a brisk pace over the last decade. With the introduction of PCIe 4.0 and 5.0 NVMe SSDs, this medium of storage offers incredibly fast speeds in a small form factor today.
PCIe 5.0 SSDs are poised for evolution once again, with TweakTown reporting plans for a new generation of Sabrent Rocket 5 Plus.
Why it matters: This SSD could mark the next big breakthrough for SSD technology, resulting in more optimized storage for consumers worldwide.
According to the report, this new generation of storage will be revealed at CES in January. Utilizing the Phison E26 controller, the new SSDs will aim for 14GB/s transfer speeds.
Currently, Phison’s controllers have been pushed to their limits to achieve speeds of 12GB/s. However, with Sabrent’s ambitious goal, the ‘Max14um’ controller will make full use of the PCIe 5×4 interface.
To utilize this type of storage, PC users will require adequate hardware that comes equipped with a slot for a Gen 5 M.2 SSD. The right combination will result in unmatched performance and incredible results.
Apart from Sabrent, Nvidia is expected to make a few announcements of its own at CES. The company is reportedly set to announce the GeForce RTX 40 Super graphics cards, which are expected to offer better prices than the base variants.
As always, CES will be an exciting event for tech and PC enthusiasts. With Sabrent introducing its latest SSD lineup, the company could change the SSD market as we know it.
Modern PC games are becoming more reliant on fast storage for asset streaming and instant loading. Therefore, such innovations could help developers get closer to their goal of completely removing interruptions in games.
