If you are planning to buy these mid-range graphics cards and are worried about the 12VHPWR connector, we have good news because the upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 and GeForce RTX 4060 series are said not to require AIB board partners to adopt the 12VHPWR connector by NVIDIA.

The company reportedly permits custom graphics cards to appear with the “old” but reliable 8-pin power connector, with some models, perhaps featuring two models with different power connectors.

According to a reliable foreign website GeForce RTX 4070, GeForce RTX 4060, and its Ti version will be available in two variants; one would have a TDP of 225W and use the 12VHWPR connector, which, up until this point, had only been present on the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, GeForce RTX 4080, and GeForce RTX 4090.

Another alternative could be presented with one or two 8-pin PCIe connectors, depending on whether the board had factory overclocked frequency or not (beyond that, a single 8-pin PCIe connector delivers 150W, in addition to the 75W of the 16x PCIe Express). So scenario for GeForce RTX 4070 would look like this;

  • GeForce RTX 4070 #1: 225W TDP, OC, 1xPCIe 16-pin (12VHWPR)
  • GeForce RTX 4070 #2: 200W TDP, OC optional, 1x/2x 8-pin PCIe connectors

The embargo will be split between the MSRP and NON-MSRP for GeForce RTX 4070. NVIDIA guidelines are to use the 12VHPWR on premium models, so it will undoubtedly cost more.

GeForce RTX 4070 will be announced this March 21 during the GTC (GPU Technology Conference) since Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang will be present to give a keynote on new technologies.

Another event it could announce is GDC 2023 on March 23, in which RTX Path Tracing for Cyberpunk 2077 will be shown alongside CD Projekt Red. The RTX 4060 is rumored for a possible May release.

About the updates on GeForce RTX 4060 and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, they will have 8GB of memory. Information about the VRAM was revealed through Gigabyte’s Control Center software change notes, specifically, version 23.03.02.01, released on March 14.

It mentions support for the GV-N4070AERO OC-12GD and GV-N4060GAMING OC-8GD models, confirming the amount of VRAM of the RTX 4070 and 4060 (and its Ti variants).
