Red Dead Redemption 2 was initially released on 26th October 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, shortly after its release, keeping in mind the title’s popularity, the game got a PC port released on 5th November 2019.
Before the release of its PC port, the game had already gathered excellent critical acclaim and fans’ love, but the release of the game on Steam helped it reach the masses. Right upon release on Steam, the game reached an impressive all-time high of 55,269 concurrent players.
However, after that, it never managed to reach that high until today; Red Dead Redemption 2 has reached an all-time high of almost 60K concurrent players on Steam, nearly 3 years after its PC release and 4 years after its initial release.
Undoubtedly, the numbers the title has managed to reach are impressive. The major contributor to achieving this goal would be the ongoing Steam Autumn Sale, in which Red Dead Redemption 2 is at a 67% discount.
Buyers can get the game only for $14.84. It is a golden opportunity for the players who have not tried this wild west masterpiece with an intriguing yet straightforward storyline that hooks you from the start.
Another factor could be the success of Steam Deck, as Red Dead Redemption 2 also made Steam Deck compatible this year. And it looks like not only the veteran Red Dead players are returning to the title for the holiday season, but the new players who have not played this critically acclaimed title have got their hands on the game with the ongoing tempting deal on Steam.
This new all-time high is another record for the Red Dead Redemption franchise; the franchise is not only a fan favorite, but it is also a commercial success for Rockstar as Red Dead Redemption 2 is the 9th best-selling game of all time and the Red Dead Redemption franchise has collectively sold over 70 million copies worldwide as per the latest Take-Two’s financial report.
It is impressive to see titles getting a resurgence of players years after their release because they were and are the best games of the era, a similar effect has been recorded with Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 1, and players are returning to the games years after their release due to the recent disaster of Battlefield 2042.
While the next highly anticipated game from Rockstar will be GTA 6, which Microsoft believes will be released in 2024, it will be exciting to see what plans Rockstar Games have for the Red Dead Redemption franchise.
So, what are your thoughts about this? Have you also picked up the game again during the holiday season? Let us know in the comment section.
