The previously rumored PlayStation streaming handheld has been confirmed during the latest PlayStation Showcase. Project Q is designed to allow users to stream PS5 games over WiFi.
Why it matters: Handheld gaming has made a comeback after the Nintendo Switch and the recent wave of AMD handhelds like the Steam Deck. Sony is no stranger to this market, and many had expected PlayStation to return with a device like the PSP or PS Vita.

As rumored, Project Q is limited to game streaming through Remote Play. This means it will not be a great option for users without suitable internet connections.
PlayStation also confirmed it will carry the innovations found in the DualSense controller. As such, fans can continue to enjoy DualSense features like the Adaptive Triggers. The handheld comes with an 8-inch HD screen, but not much else was revealed about the device.
The earlier report expected the handheld to be released before 2024. However, the recent reveal suggests that PlayStation may be planning a release much sooner.
PlayStation is also rumored to be working on a new PS5 revision with a model that includes support for a detachable disc drive. This was not announced at the event but could still be revealed later this year.
