The flagship graphics card from the Nvidia 40-series, GeForce RTX 4090, launched with mixed reviews from the community; despite its impressive performance, many folks in the PC community are afraid to make their next expensive purchase due to the issue that the 12VHPWR power connector is facing.

After many reports of burned or damaged connectors, a PSU expert finally has a temporary fix to avoid damaging your investment.

According to Corsair PSU expert JonnyGuru, the issues with the 12VHPWR 16-pin power connector (Corsair Cable, not adapter) might be a user error. After comparing countless examples of burned connectors, Jonny Guru finally concluded.

So many users face this issue because of a loose connection, where users might not be fully inserting the 12VHPWR power connector cable into the graphics card.

Further, he suggests a temporary fix to use dielectric grease on the power connector for owners worried about their GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card.

On the other hand, PCI-SIG might be working on a revision of the 12VHPWR 16-pin power connector. According to a notification, an engineering change request has been made by PCI-SIG that will be finalized on 22nd December 2022.

Aside from that, Nvidia has also considered this issue and asked its AIB partners to ship units facing this issue directly to them. It looks like Nvidia wants to find out the real reason behind this disease, but the company has been quiet so far. At the same time, many third-party testers are giving it their all to get to the bottom of it.

Nvidia could have easily avoided this disaster by opting for a regular PCIe power connector. But in a race to be the best, Nvidia decided to go with a new and untested connector too early.

What are your thoughts about the new 12VHPWR 16-pin power standard? Will it interfere with your decision to invest in a GeForce RTX 4090?
