The Elder Scrolls 6 will be the next big RPG from Bethesda Game Studios after Starfield. With Starfield wrapping up development soon, Bethesda Game Studios will shift focus to the next big title in the Elder Scrolls franchise.
While the game was announced in 2018, Microsoft has not provided any update on the title. This has led to concerns about the game being far from release, but a Microsoft lawyer has recently hinted that Microsoft is targeting a 2026 release date for the game.
Why it matters: This release window goes against Phil Spencer’s suggestion. Previously, the Xbox CEO claimed that The Elder Scrolls 6 would not be released before 2028.
The lawyer also appears to confirm The Elder Scrolls 6 will be a single-player title. While this was expected, recent reports hinted that Bethesda Game Studios may have considered multiplayer elements for the game.
Fans should note that this does not confirm a release window. Microsoft is likely hoping to release the game by 2026, but delays and longer development cycles have become far too common in the gaming industry.
Starfield was also delayed multiple times, so it would be unsurprising to see the game released later than the 2026 target. The Elder Scrolls 6 could also mark the last game from Todd Howard, so the developer will likely ensure it lives up to the industry’s expectations.
Previously, Phil Spencer was asked if the next Bethesda Game Studios RPG would be exclusive to Xbox consoles. The Xbox CEO claimed exclusivity is undecided since the game is so far from release.
However, recent documents reveal Microsoft may have already decided to make all future games from Bethesda exclusive to Xbox platforms.
