Nvidia’s next generation of graphics cards is nearly here, and rumors about the GPUs have been spreading like wildfire. With Ampere, Nvidia managed to provide a great price (MSRP) to performance ratio for all market segments. With the new generation, Nvidia is looking to take another leap in terms of performance.

We already know that the new GeForce RTX 4000 series ‘Ada Lovelace’ GPUs will be based on TSMC’s 5nm process node. This is because Samsung’s 8nm yield last generation proved to be a hurdle for Nvidia. Previously, we covered leaked specifications for the RTX 4070, and now we have some more information on the matter.

According to the reports from foreign media Digitimes, Micron has started mass production of its new GDDR6X memory for upcoming flagship models.

This memory has also been used in the recently launched flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card. The memory runs at blazing fast speeds of 21Gb/s in the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, and the GeForce RTX 4080 and GeForce 4090 based on the flagship AD102 GPU Core are also likely to use 24 GB of GDDR6X memory, while the TDP would be up to 600W. With Micron’s GDDR6X going into mass production, it would make sense that the memory would be utilized for Nvidia’s next-Gen GPUs, expected to be released in the second half of 2022. With the new chips, Micron is offering speed bumps of up to 15%  over the previous 8GB GDDR6X chips in the GeForce RTX 3090. Micron has also announced that they are already working on faster chips that could provide bandwidths of over 1100GB/s.

Speaking on the matter, Mark Montierth, VP and GM of High-Performance Memory and Networking at Micron, said,

“The industry-leading capabilities of Micron’s GDDR6X memory help bring new levels of realism and performance to the most demanding applications”.

This bandwidth will be key to optimal performance at higher resolutions as games get more graphically intensive. While the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is already very powerful, it is still incapable of providing high frame rates at the highest settings at 4K or higher resolutions in every game. Therefore, Micron’s new chips could be the breakthrough the industry has been looking for. Micron also explained that their 1 TB/s bandwidth makes the memory optimal for graphics applications that need fast memory. According to them, no other manufacturer is providing such speeds.
