Story Highlights
  • Arkane Lyon announced Marvel’s Blade at The Game Awards today.
  • The game is not confirmed as a console exclusive for Xbox yet.
  • Bethesda has refused to comment on the matter.

Arkane Lyon announced a brand new project at The Game Awards. The studio is working on Marvel’s Blade, and one thing everyone has been curious about is the game’s exclusivity status.

Despite coming from a Microsoft-led studio, there was no mention of Xbox exclusivity in the trailer, leading to suspicions about the game being a multi-platform title.

Why it matters: Microsoft acquired Bethesda Softworks in 2021 for high-quality exclusives. Therefore, Blade hanging on the edge without a confirmed status is a bit worrying.

Following the disastrous launch of Redfall, Arkane Austin revealed that the game was originally designed as a multi-platform game, but Microsoft decided to make it an exclusive offering.

On the other hand, Marvel’s Blade likely began development recently. This would mean that work started after Microsoft acquired Bethesda Softworks, leading to a high likelihood of the game being a console exclusive for Xbox from the beginning.

However, the lack of clarity has led to speculation. Fans are now considering the possibility of the game being a multi-platform release, and Bethesda’s silence has not helped. According to VG247, the studio has refused to elaborate further.

Marvel's Blade Game

While Arkane Lyon’s Deathloop was a timed PlayStation exclusive, it seems unlikely for the studio to create games for PlayStation moving forward.

During Microsoft’s case against FTC, leaked documents suggested that all future Bethesda Softworks games would be exclusive to Xbox. Though there may be some exceptions, the biggest titles are expected to follow this rule.

This move would also allow Xbox to compete against PlayStation’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, with exclusivity proving beneficial for the gaming giant.

However, everything regarding this title and its platforms is pure speculation for now. Bethesda will likely reveal the platforms closer to release, keeping fans in the dark till then.
