Lies of P launched in September this year to critical acclamation from the audience. Neowiz and Round 8 Studio did a fantastic job making a game with all aspects of a good souls-like game and making it unique simultaneously.
Another aspect of the game that is often slept on is the graphics. At the same time, they aren’t class-leading. They are decent enough for a modern title. It was developed in Unreal Engine 4, which now has its latest version, the UE5.
A recent job listing suggests the Lies of P sequel will utilize the power of Unreal Engine 5.
Why it matters? Unreal Engine 5 allows the developers to do more in-game stuff than its predecessor. Along with better graphics fidelity, it also offers more space for creativity.
To be exact, UE5 allows for dynamic lighting without ray tracing, enabling better graphics and performance on less capable GPUs. Also, with the newer engine, you can build much bigger cityscapes and complex structures previously impossible with the UE5.
Unreal Engine 4 is also notorious for some major issues. The biggest is the shader compilation issue, which takes a long time for the game to load its textures. Moreover, it also has certain bugs that can be quite problematic.
Not many games are utilizing the newer engine right now, but many games in development are confirmed to be using it. Lords of the Fallen and RoboCop: Rogue City are some early adopters of the Unreal Engine 5.
Amongst other notable names are the upcoming titles like Avowed, Stalker 2, Tekken 8, The Witcher Remake, The Witcher 4, and more. All these titles will utilize the power of Unreal Engine 5, and we are excited to see what they have in store for us.
Lies of P sequel is undoubtedly quite far at this point. But the prospect that a sequel will be developed in Unreal Engine 5 is certainly interesting. That will also give the developers enough time to fiddle with and perfect the engine.
