As predicted by rumors and leaks, Intel officially announced its 14th-generation Raptor Lake Refresh lineup recently. This announcement included the Core i5-14600K as the lowest-end chip.

However, according to Geekbench results, a new non-K-based processor will soon be joining the 14th generation ranks, expected to arrive next year. The processor in question is the Intel Core i5-14400, which just appeared on Geekbench.

Like the Core i5-13400, this processor features a total of 10 cores, including 4 efficient cores.

In terms of specifications, the upcoming processor is identical to its predecessor, the Core i5-13400. The main difference between the two competing CPUs seems to be a bump in frequency.

Intel has brought a 100Mhz bump to the table, allowing the Core i5-14400 to turbo up to 4.7 GHz. This allowed the chip to score 2464 points in single and 13373 points in multi-core performance on Geekbench.

Based on previous results, the new 65W processor from Intel scored 8.5% better in single and 28% better in multi-core performance.

With the popularity of this tier of Intel Core i5 processors, the 14th-generation counterpart will likely become popular for its price-to-performance. However, it is disappointing to see little substantial improvements compared to the 13th generation.

While Intel has debuted several chips in the 14th generation lineup, most of them will not provide the massive jump seen between the 12th and 13th generations. With the exception of the Core i7-14700K, the 14th generation is very similar to its predecessor.

The new Raptor Lake Refresh series also marks the end of Intel 600 and 700 series chipsets based on the LGA-1700 socket. Intel will now turn its attention toward Arrow Lake.

This lineup is expected to be designed on a new architecture and bring IPC improvements for the next generation. Such changes could culminate in around 20% more performance on average.
