Final Fantasy XV has surpassed a significant sales milestone and is on its path to becoming one of the most popular games of all time in the Final Fantasy series.

Square Enix recently announced that Final Fantasy XV, the controversial release in the Japanese series that began life as Versus XIII before being converted into the version that eventually hit shops and created a name for itself, has sold over 10 million units. The success of passing such a significant milestone is a major achievement for the development team, and the game certainly deserves all of the acclaim it has received.

Tweet roughly Translates to;

“Final Fantasy 15 has achieved cumulative worldwide sales of 10 million units!  Thank you for your support!   Thank you for your continued support.”

Final Fantasy XV was initially announced as Versus XIII at E3 2006, and development began shortly after. In 2013, Tetsuya Nomura’s Versus XIII was presented to the world as Final Fantasy XV, and in November 2016, the team led by Hajime Tabata ultimately launched the game. The game has an open-world setting and an action-based warfare system, with quick-switching weapons, elemental magic, and additional vehicle travel and camping elements.

Square Enix continued to tweak Final Fantasy XV progress years after its initial release. The game development studio announced four further DLCs in 2018 under the promising title “The Dawn of the Future,” following a first season pass that shed more light on the characters Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto, among other things.
