- A report states Bethesda made millions after the Fallout TV show exploded worldwide.
- Games like Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 sold millions of copies.
- Moreover, in-game purchases generated enough revenue to contribute to a total of $80 million.
Following the successful launch of the Fallout TV show, over 5 million people were active in the Fallout franchise at one point. This show has already reached 80 million viewers and is expected to reach 100 million in no time.
While Amazon has likely found this adaptation quite lucrative, a new report puts into perspective just how much Bethesda has benefited from the TV show. The studio appears to have made at least $80 million after this adaptation became popular.
Why it matters: This revenue has required little effort from Bethesda since most of its developers were not actively involved in the adaptation.
VG Insights has released an estimated chart to analyse the revenue Bethesda generated from its games following this TV series.
Fallout 4 players were up by 54% on consoles after the show, and it has now been reported that the game sold around 2 million units recently, which makes around $22 million.
Fallout 76, released over six years ago, sold around one or one and a half million copies, making $16 million. Not only that, it has also been reported that players spent nearly $12 million on in-game purchases, adding up to a total of $28 million in revenue for the title.
Meanwhile, Bethesda has made a massive amount of money, around $30 million, from licensing the IP for the show to Amazon. This brings the revenue up to a total of $80 million for a franchise that hasn’t seen a new release in a while.
It should be noted that the $80 million figure excludes revenue from titles like Fallout Shelter or Fallout 3. The former likely made around 5-10 million, while the latter was among the best-selling titles on Steam for a while.
Overall, Bethesda seems to have hit a home run.
Amazon has already confirmed the second season for the show after the incredible success of the first one. The developers are also expected to work on Fallout 5 eventually, but this entry needs more time.
