Codemasters, the company that picked up the Formula 1 franchise in 2006 from EA was able to produce 13 F1 games before EA purchased the company and claimed ownership of the created F1 titles. After acquiring Codemasters, EA has only created one F1 game, F1 2021.

However, a user on the NeoGaf Forum by the name ‘ArtHands’ just discovered that the thirteenth game in the Formula One series, F1 2020, is no longer available on the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store. However, it is still available on Steam. Although we do not know when this occurred, it seems to be recent.

This is not a new occurrence; EA already withdrew F1 (2012–2018) from all platforms two months ago, and F1 2019 off Steam last month (2 months ago on consoles).

The screenshots below show how F1 2020 appears on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.

While it is included with EA Play, it is not available for purchase individually.

F1 2020 is still available on Steam, but given that all prior F1 games were also removed from the platform, it wouldn’t be surprising if the same scenario happened in this case.

While EA has yet to clarify why these games have vanished, it’s most likely because the license rights have expired. Because it would be unprofitable to renew the licenses due to their age, the titles have been removed from digital circulation.

Some fans may be dissatisfied with EA’s decision since, despite the fact that F1 2021 exists, some fans favour F1 2020 because everybody has their own preferences and some may find F1 2020 more fun than F1 2021.

With that said, We’re hoping that F1 2022, which will be released on June 28, 2022, will compensate for the loss of all past F1 games, and that it lives up to our expectations.
