Dying Light 2, released in 2022, still enjoys heaps of support from Techland. Due to its fun gameplay, thousands of gamers are still exploring this first-person zombie sandbox, but fans were doubtful about Tencent taking over the developer last year.
The gaming giant became Techland’s majority shareholder last year, and gamers were upset about the microtransactions that followed. However, in our interview with Techland, the developer had nothing but positive words for Tencent.
Why it matters: Following the acquisition, many fans were concerned Tencent would negatively impact the future of Dying Light 2 due to its monetization practices in other games.
In our interview, we asked Techland about its experience of working with Tencent. The developer thinks highly of Tencent, and it seems like the environment created by this change was positive.

One major benefit Techland has seen is the ability to collaborate with all the other teams under Tencent. The franchise director noted that it opens up all new possibilities, which will be helpful for more than just Dying Light 2.

Tencent has investments in the likes of Epic Games, Riot Games, and even FromSoftware.
Needless to say, these teams bring a wide range of experience to the table. From technology to game design, the publisher has invested in some of gaming’s biggest names, so Techland has enjoyed the partnership.
There is always the danger of publisher interference when such acquisitions take place. However, it seems Techland is more than happy to work under this gaming giant.
The industry remains concerned about consolidation since publishers like Embracer Group have seen thousands of layoffs this year. Fortunately, Tencent has not been as aggressive, and Techland is able to continue supporting Dying Light 2 as a result of this change.
