- Dragon’s Dogma 2 will run at uncapped frame rates.
- This information comes from director Hideaki Itsuno.
- Capcom has yet to confirm whether console players will be able to use a 30FPS quality mode for the game.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 received attention from many console gamers after a rumor hinted at a 30FPS lock for the game. Fortunately, a video analysis was quick to debunk the rumor, and the director has officially revealed more on the subject.
According to director Hideaki Itsuno, this RPG will launch with uncapped frame rates.
Why it matters: Only a handful of current-generation titles run at a 30FPS lock on consoles, making it disappointing for millions of PS5 and Xbox Series S|X users when a new game adds to this count.

Over on Twitter, the director clarified doubts about frame rate targets for Capcom’s latest AAA RPG. However, he did not go into too many specifics, leaving some confusion about the graphical modes on consoles.
While PC gamers expect uncapped frame rates, console gamers typically prefer a locked frame rate for consistency, whether it be 30FPS or 60FPS. Capcom has traditionally aimed for the latter.
Therefore, the game appears to be aiming for 60FPS on consoles, even if it fails to hit the target. While it remains to be seen if a 30FPS lock will be included in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for consoles, it can always be added later with enough demand.
Director Hideaki Itsuno’s last major release shipped with a similar setup on base last-generation consoles. Devil May Cry 5 aimed for 60FPS, but the game could often dip below this target in intense situations.
It appears the director has chosen to follow a similar strategy for Dragon’s Dogma 2, though the drops are expected to be more severe in this case, judging from the game’s trailer and previews.
We expect to receive more specifics about the game’s resolution and frame targets in the upcoming weeks. With the RPG quickly approaching its 22nd March release date, Capcom is also expected to reveal the final PC specifications.
Games like Redfall and Starfield were criticized for launching with a 30FPS cap last year. However, these games chose a more consistent experience instead of an uncapped frame rate.
With Capcom going the other route, it will be interesting to see how Dragon’s Dogma 2 performs at release. If the publisher follows past trends, it might release a public demo later this month, which could serve as a rough indication of what to expect.
