Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is finally returning with a brand-new follow-up over 15 years later. The game was recently revealed during the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour finals and has taken the entire Dragon Ball fandom by storm.

Bandai Namco revealed the game with a montage of the older game that transitioned into a small teaser featuring Super Saiyan Blue Goku. Details on the project are currently very limited, with the developer behind the game also a mystery.

This reveal has led to discussions about the possible release window for the title since Bandai Namco was so reserved with the reveal. Some believe that the game might be far away, but a new rumor on Reddit appears to claim that Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is targeting a September release.

The rumor further suggests that Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 will be released across current and last-gen consoles. Fans had previously hoped that the game would skip the older consoles for more ambitious mechanics, but this may not be the case.

It also suggests the game will skip on Xbox One. Recent releases like One Piece Odyssey and Resident Evil 4 Remake have shown a similar pattern, and the leak claims that Dragon Ball’s next game will be no different.

A potential September release would mean that Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is much closer than expected. Previous Dragon Ball games were released shortly after their first reveal trailers, so this is not too unbelievable.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was first shown in May 2016 and released in October of the same year. Following its release, Dragon Ball FighterZ was shown at E3 in June 2017. The game was then released in January 2018.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot came next and was released a full year after its 2019 reveal. Looking at the trend, it is not unreasonable to imagine that the next Dragon Ball title can be released by September, but Bandai Namco may choose to take longer to do justice to the long-awaited follow-up.

It should be noted that the source has no previous track record. As such, it would be best to keep expectations limited and take the information with a grain of salt.

The Budokai Tenkaichi games are famous for their accuracy to the source material and huge roster. Many fans expect Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 to continue this trend with an incredibly large roster and all the gameplay options seen in the last entry.

It remains to be seen if the upcoming title can live up to the legacy of Budokai Tenkaichi, but the announcement alone is exciting enough to look forward to the game for many Dragon Ball fans.
