Diablo 4 was announced in 2019 for all current consoles, including the Xbox One S|X, Xbox Series S|X, PS4 and PS5, and PC. A trailer was also revealed along with the announcement. The game was tipped to launch earlier but was delayed to 2022, now expected in 2023 due to some complications going around at Blizzard.
While back then, the game was announced for several platforms, including the older gen consoles, it seems like Blizzard has changed their plans, and Diablo 4 will now be next-gen only. While this will be a frustrating thing for older generation console players, the people that have next-gen consoles will be delighted to hear at is this means they will have better graphics and better optimized for the PS5 and Xbox Series S and X.
According to the Diablo 4 official webpage, the preregistration for the game has started and what’s interesting is that it lists Battlenet, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation5 as its supported platforms.
Diablo and Blizzard team haven’t officially announced the game’s preregistration going live on any of their platforms. It can only be seen if you visit the Diablo 4 webpage. It could be that Diablo 4 might be a timed exclusive for next-gen and later release for the previous gen. consoles as well. But as of yet, everything is open to speculation. (Update: The game will indeed launch on older consoles but later down the line)
Diablo 4 will mainly focus on online gameplay as it won’t be available offline, as revealed by Blizzard. According to Blizzard, the sequel to the hit 2013 RPG will include an open environment and “deep customization,” according to Blizzard. According to the game’s release, the world of Sanctuary will be a “contiguous seamless continent” that will cover several of the game’s locations.
We don’t have an official release date for Diablo 4, but it might be revealed today at the Xbox Bethesda Showcase, along with other details. However, it is expected to launch early in 2023. Stay tuned for any further news, as we will make sure to update you in case of any new developments.
