- Fans have been making a mod of Dark Souls 3 for 4 years.
- The mod is known as Dark Souls Archthrones, and it completely revamps Dark Souls 3 with new levels, enemies, and more content.
- A demo for this mod will be released on March 15, but a release date is yet to be confirmed.
Dark Souls 3 was released almost eight years ago, concluding the series on a high note. With impressive bosses, soundtracks, and levels, this game has become a fan favorite among FromSoftware’s slate of releases.
However, with the lack of another entry, fans have taken the task of creating Dark Souls 4 into their own hands. A mod team has worked hard for four years and is finally releasing a demo for Dark Souls: Archthrones this week.
Why it matters: FromSoftware is currently busy with projects like Shadow of the Edtree as Elden Ring is still going strong, giving modders a chance to showcase their talents through such passion projects.
The latest trailer of Dark Souls: Archthrones highlights new places that have not been seen in the original game.
While the desert and snowy areas look similar, they are completely new additions. The Thrones also looks quite different from the original game, and the trailer shows what appears to be a new boss battle.
Like any other mod project, Archthrones uses the same assets from Dark Souls 3. Therefore, animations and gameplay are similar. However, the team has greatly expanded on FromSoftware’s work.
Another 15-minute video goes into further detail, highlighting new bosses and levels. The team states that Archthrones is positioned as a prequel to Dark Souls, which came out 12 years ago.
It also describes that events unfold across five new worlds.
The team’s upcoming demo should give audiences a small glimpse at everything planned for this project. This demo is shaping up to be an interesting shadow drop, with the team making the announcement mere days before the release.
Still, not much is known about the demo. The demo for this game will be released on 15th March. It was originally supposed to be released in September 2023, but Dark Souls: Archthrones still required some polish.
While making completely new bosses is difficult, it has already been done in the Long May the Shadows Reflect Sekiro overhaul mod. Therefore, we advise readers to prepare for more fierce challenges in Dark Souls 3 like never before.
With just two days left for the demo, anticipation is steadily building, and the initial footage is very encouraging for fans of FromSoftware’s work.
