- The Core i9-14900K is Intel’s flagship processor for the Raptor Lake Refresh.
- This CPU competes with the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, boasting slightly higher performance in Intel’s testing.
After rumors of the Raptor Lake Refresh or Intel 14th generation, many benchmarks and performance results have started to show up. HXL has shared an Intel Slide, showing Intel’s top-tier Core i9-14900K processor going head-to-head against the AMD flagship Ryzen 9 7950X3D.
The slide compares the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, AMD’s best AM5 CPU, with the Core i9-14900K’s gaming performance. Because of its 3D V-Cache technology, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D offers much-improved gaming performance.
It is now among the top gaming processors available, closely followed by the Ryzen 7 7800X3D with 8 Zen 4 cores. However, Intel appears to be better than the competition in this generation.
Why it matters: The latest generation of Intel processors is not based on a completely new architecture. Therefore, it cannot deliver incredible leaps beyond its rivals or current generation.

According to the slide, the Intel Core i9-14900K demonstrates superior performance in a total of fourteen games while being tied in one. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D wins in 9 games.
As expected, Intel appears to be faster. However, this advantage is so small that it may not matter to most people. Intel averages a lead of around 2% at 1080p, which can be considered a margin of error for some.
It is also important to note that these benchmarks come directly from Intel. Therefore, actual test results might differ based on the conditions and methodology, so it might be best to wait for more testing.
Ultimately, this generation of Intel is not meant for those who already have the latest and greatest processors.
Both processors are solid options for those looking to build high-end PCs. With modern games requiring more CPU horsepower than before, PC gamers can’t go wrong with either of these options.
