- Capcom has marked another profitable year with its business segments outperforming expectations.
- However, game sales have declined on a year-on-year basis compared to last fiscal year.
- Capcom expects the revenue to increase as game releases are planned for later this year.
Capcom is one of the only companies in the industry that has been profitable for the last seven years straight.
While net sales and operating income have declined this year, all of the publisher’s business segments have continued to outperform expectations, contributing to high revenue.
Why it matters: Despite most of Capcom’s releases being planned for later this year, the other business segments including Arcade Operations, Amusement equipment, and other events like esports, have kept the company’s profits going.
According to its latest report, the company mostly focused on existing releases on other platforms and sales of older titles. This resulted in sales of 9.53 million units, which aligns with the full-year target, which ends in March 2025.
Unfortunately, this isn’t a new high for Capcom, as revenue decreased in the same time frame compared to last fiscal year. Street Fighter 6 was released last year, and in total, Capcom sold a whopping 46 million games, setting a new record.
This year, Dragon’s Dogma 2 recorded great sales numbers. It has recorded 3 million sales so far, and the numbers are still increasing. The studio is now beginning to plan various big AAA releases for the future to continue this momentum.
Various games are also coming up in the next few months. Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is set to release in September. Moreover, the next Monster Hunter entry comes out in 2025. The title, from the early footage, looks outstanding, building massive hype around it.
While they might not be coming too soon, the publisher has multiple Resident Evil games in the pipeline. These include Resident Evil 9, along with a Code Veronica remake.
All in all, Capcom is heading towards a bright future and is expected to remain profitable even in the coming years. This has largely to do with the studio not going into deals or any kind of exclusivity arrangements and just sticking to quality releases.
