Story Highlights
  • Black Myth: Wukong is said to offer 15 hours of gameplay.
  • According to the developers, some players may take longer to beat the game.
  • The team did not clarify if this estimate accounted for optional content.

Black Myth: Wukong is all the rage right now. Having become Steam’s best-selling and most wish-listed game, this Souls-like has a massive fandom patiently awaiting the August 20 release date.

While there is a lot to love about Black Myth: Wukong so far, one detail has the potential to become controversial. According to the developers, the Souls-like will offer about 15 hours of gameplay.

Why it matters: Most Souls-likes typically take much longer to complete, and modern games, in general, aim to offer at least 20 hours of gameplay.

According to a report, lead producer Feng Ji stated that the team aimed to create a Souls-like that could be played for at least 15 hours.

However, he also emphasized that this estimate excludes the many hours players will likely spend learning attack patterns and mastering boss fights. Therefore, in practice, Black Myth: Wukong could be much longer.

While the game belongs to the Souls-like genre, there is no telling how difficult the experience will be. Recent releases like Stellar Blade have been called too easy by many FromSoftware fans, so it remains to be seen if Sun Wukong’s latest outing will offer a sufficient challenge.

Depending on its difficulty, the playtime may end up being just enough or too short for audiences. It is also important to note that the team did not clarify whether the 15 hours would include side-content.

Another interesting detail is that Souls-like developers are often known to underestimate the length of their games. For instance, Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that Elden Ring would last about 30 hours when focusing on the main story.

However, those who have played this RPG would know that Elden Ring can easily offer twice as much playtime, even when ignoring the side content.

Unlike most new AAA releases, Black Myth: Wukong is priced at $60. While the value on offer is up for debate, fans will be glad to know that Game Science is sticking to the old pricing model instead of leaping toward the $70 price tag.

Fans should also expect to learn more about the content and side activities in the coming weeks. With the release date closer than ever, an extensive marketing campaign should be ready to kick off very soon.
