DDR5 memory is slowly but steadily taking over the industry as more and more mainstream platforms continue to give up DDR4 support in favor of the newer standard. AMD’s latest Ryzen 7000 series CPUs are exclusive to DDR5, and Intel is expected to follow that trend in its next CPU generation. With the rising popularity of DDR5 memory, it is crucial to establish a hierarchy of the various DDR5 options available on the market. I have thoroughly tested a plethora of DDR5 RAM kits to form this list of the very best DDR5 RAM options for your next build.

Memory Type: DDR5 | Capacity: 32GB (16GB x2) | Frequency: 8000MHz | Latency: CL38 | Latency (nanoseconds): 9.5 ns | Input Voltage: 1.45V | RGB Lighting: No

Pros

  • Exceptional stock performance
  • Understated design
  • Great heat dissipation
  • Available in 48GB capacity

Cons

  • Unremarkable overclocking headroom

Aesthetics are not really the strong point of the TEAMGROUP T-Force Xtreem series, as this lineup is purely focused on performance. The black heat spreaders do give it a very understated look, but the silver accents and text do not really do much to improve the design. There is a stark lack of RGB lighting, which may also be a divisive choice. The TEAMGROUP T-Force Xtreem dominates the memory benchmarks in my test suite, as it is the fastest memory kit I have tested to date. The memory overclocking performance, however, is underwhelming as I was not able to overclock the T-Force Xtreem kit since it has already been pushed to the limit out of the box.

Of course, being a premium memory kit, the T-Force Xtreem is aimed at enthusiasts who want the best of the best. Its price tag is quite steep, but it still provides a decent value for your money if you can harness its performance in a meaningful way, as creators can definitely benefit from the additional performance uplift.

During my in-depth testing, I also noted that:

The TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB kits have become iconic over the past few years for their familiar design. The angled edges of the heat spreader provide an aggressive and modern look to the memory modules, while the T-Force script is nicely blended in as well. The huge RGB bar is a nice addition and provides a splash of color to your build. The T-Force Delta kits come in a wide variety of configurations, but my selected 6000MHz CL30 kit hits a nice sweet spot in terms of performance per dollar. While the stock performance is quite admirable, I was a bit frustrated with the overclocking experience and could only manage 6400MHz at 1.42V, which is not ideal.

I was quite impressed with the price-to-performance ratio of the T-Force Delta RGB kit that I selected since it offers solid stock performance at a very affordable price point. Sure, it cuts a few corners here and there, but it is still one of the best DDR5 RAM kits that you can pick up for a budget build at the time of writing.

I shared my thoughts on its value proposition during my review process:

What makes this kit even more compelling is the pricing giving this kit a good price-to-performance ratio.

PRO TIP: You can use your motherboard’s RGB software such as ASUS AURA Sync and Gigabyte RGB Fusion to configure the lighting of this RAM kit.

Pros

  • Solid stock performance
  • Attractive RGB lighting
  • Reasonable price point
  • Available in white color

Cons

  • Mediocre overclocking performance
  • Tall heat spreaders

Lexar has done a decent job with the aesthetics of the ARES RGB kits. While I don’t necessarily like the bulky design of the heat spreader, it still looks quite nice when installed in a PC case. The black heat spreader has a minimalist inscription and a few silver accents, while the large RGB bar on the top serves as the main design element of the module. With a frequency of 6400MHz at CL32, my selected variant of the Lexar ARES RGB kit falls in the middle of the pack when it comes to stock performance in my test suite. I also managed to overclock the kit to 6800MHz at 1.5V, which delivers a decent bump in performance but the required voltage is a bit too high.

Thanks to its reasonable price point, my selected Lexar ARES RGB kit shines in the value department. It checks all the necessary boxes while being easy on the wallet. Sure, it may not have the highest stock performance or the most aggressive overclocking potential, but it gets the job done while delivering excellent value for your money.

Why We Didn’t Go For These Best DDR5 RAM Kits?

I tested a plethora of DDR5 RAM kits in order to determine the best ones currently available, which means that several RAM kits did not make the cut. Here are a few DDR5 RAM kits that just missed the mark.

How We Tested & Picked The Best DDR5 RAM

We used stringent criteria to finalize our selection of the best DDR5 RAM. You should also keep these factors in mind when shopping for RAM.

  • Budget and Affordability: Just like with any other purchase, it’s essential to base your decision on a specific budget, so you’ll know whether it is feasible for you to splurge on some of the more premium DDR5 RAMs out there, or go for something more practical such as a value-oriented RAM kit. The price-to-performance ratio is a crucial factor to consider.
  • Latency and Frequency: Pay close attention to the RAM kit’s latency timings and overall performance specifications. Lower latency and higher clock speeds can significantly impact system responsiveness and speed, making it essential to choose a DDR5 RAM kit that aligns with your specific computing needs.
  • Aesthetics: The aesthetics and build quality should not be overlooked when selecting a DDR5 RAM kit. The physical appearance of RAM modules can contribute to the overall look of your PC build. Opting for RAM modules with a unique design can enhance its visual appeal, and can give you customization options through RGB lighting.
  • Compatibility: The market is filled with dozens and dozens of RAM kits along with pages of marketing jargon, which can confuse the average buyer, therefore it is important to consider the compatibility factor beforehand. Memory kits optimized for Intel CPUs often have “Ready for XMP” labels, while AMD-specific memory tends to showcase the “AMD EXPO” certification.
  • Manufacturer Support: It’s also critical to factor in manufacturer support and brand reputation. Established and reputable brands often provide better customer support, warranty coverage, and product reliability. In case you encounter any issues or require assistance, a trustworthy manufacturer is more likely to offer reliable solutions and timely support.
