Much has been said recently about Thomas Lockley and his influence on Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The writer of the famous book about Yasuke has previously clarified that he was not involved in the game, and he recently reiterated this point in a new interview.

However, he also commented on Ubisoft’s decision to use Yasuke as the main character. According to Thomas Lockley, it’s hard to say if the studio’s choice of this character was the best.

Why it matters: Ubisoft’s choice to portray the story of this historical figure has led to a serious debate online. The studio has even had to offer an official statement on the matter before.

Thomas Lockley recently appeared on the Lance E.Lee podcast to discuss his book, The True Story of Yasuke. When asked about his involvement in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the author quickly denied that he worked with Ubisoft.

He states that he did not receive royalties from Ubisoft, though his book is now selling better than ever due to the increased interest in Yasuke’s history. Moreover, Thomas Lockley also stated that he doesn’t really have anything to say on the matter.

I don’t know whether the game should have him(Yasuke) as the main character. Quite frankly, I don’t care.

However, he urged those involved in this discussion to focus on celebrating Yasuke’s life and remembering the positive aspects of his history instead of attacking him.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Comes Out In November

Previously, Thomas Lockley was accused of fabricating information regarding Yasuke’s life. Ubisoft has also sparked a debate about the character’s position as an authentic samurai.

As the situation continues to spiral out of control, moderators on the Assassin’s Creed Shadows subreddit have begun to ban people who argue against the historical figure’s status as a proper samurai.

Nonetheless, Thomas Lockley does not seem too concerned about the whole situation. Evidence has suggested that he appeared on a podcast with Ubisoft not too long ago, but he remains adamant that he was not involved in the game in any way.
