Ark: Survival Evolved is a nearly decade-old survival game from Studio Wildcard. The developer is currently working on a sequel to the survival game and recently also announced a remastered version of the first game called Ark: Survival Ascended.
This remaster will bring the previous game to the new Unreal Engine 5, in addition to improved graphics and new features like crossplay. But the remaster will cost $50 to play, and fans are not happy about this.
Earlier this year, Ark co-director and Studio Wildcard co-founder said that the new update would be released as a free upgrade for Ark: Survival Evolved owners. This contradiction has been the primary reason for the current disappointment.
Fans have been outraged, and a Reddit user asked Ark: Survival Evolved players whether they would buy the new game that costs $50. Over 2.1K users have selected the “I will not buy it” option, highlighting the general sentiment surrounding Ark: Survival Ascended.
Fans have also made memes that say the upgrade is entirely free, while others have bombarded the Ark: Survival Evolved Steam page with negative reviews, with most of them saying that the game is going to die in four months.
The worst part is that the Ark: Survival Evolved servers will shut down in August, and fans will have no option but to pay $50 to enjoy the game.
It is unclear if this decision came from the developers or came about due to publisher interference. Nonetheless, the fans have clearly shown a distaste for the latest direction of the Ark franchise.
Do you think the $50 upgrade is justified? Let’s discuss this in the comments.
