It is a busy time of the year, and companies are releasing their quarterly financial reports, which reveal some interesting insights about various products related to the gaming industry. A few days ago, Capcom released its quarterly financial report, and we reported about the Monster Hunter series sales records.
It was also recently revealed that PlayStation 5 has completed Japan’s 2 million console sales mark. But today, Sony officially released its financial report for Q2 2022, which gave us the exact numbers of Sony’s hardware sales which, includes its latest console; PlayStation 5; we can say that it’s just keeping up good, but the figures are not as impressive as one can expect as PS5 only managed to sell over 3.3 million units worldwide in Q2 of 2022 which barely makes up the goal of selling 18 million units this year.
Many factors have affected the sales of PlayStation 5, like Sony has hiked the price of PlayStation 5. Before that, the non-availability of the console was another major factor affecting sales. These numbers are around the Xbox console sales revealed by Microsoft earlier this month this quarter. Recently, Phil Spencer, in an interview, also revealed that Microsoft is losing $100 to $200 per console.
While Sony’s hardware sales were not impressive this quarter, the exciting thing that was also revealed in the financial report is that God of War 2018 has sold over 23 million copies worldwide since its release. Undoubtedly God of War 2018 is not only the most beloved game in the franchise with critically acclaimed reviews but is also a commercial success. Most of these recent sales are covered by its PC port that was released in January this year which is assumed to be 3 million copies.
The sequel of the God of War; God of War Ragnarok, is only a week away, and if we consider the sales record of its predecessor, it will be safe to say that it will be a massive hit, if not the biggest game on PlayStation this year. Still, it will not be fair to give all the credit to God of War 2018 as God of War Ragnarok has insane hype of its own, making headlines every day just before its release.
However, due to the game’s massive hype, its spoilers were inevitable, and Cory Barlog has expressed disappointment at God Of War Ragnarok spoilers. Other than the spoilers, fans have many more positive things to look at, like God of War Ragnarok will take around 50+ hours for a thorough walkthrough of the game and will feature four graphics modes on PlayStation 5.
