During the Ubisoft Forward event, in addition to announcing Assassin’s Creed Miragefor 2023, Ubisoft confirmed that there are already two other Assassin’s Creed titles in development, as it had been leaked a few days ago.

Assassin’s Creed Project Red will be the next installment of the hooded saga and will be set in Feudal Japan. It is in development by Ubisoft Quebec, the creators of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and is estimated to be released in 2024.

On the other hand, Assassin’s Creed Project Hexe (previously called Project Neo) is also in development at Ubisoft Montreal and will take fans to the darkest Assassin’s Creed game ever. Project Hexe would be set during the era of Witch Hunts in 16th-century Europe and released in 2025 or 2026.

Both would be part of the Assassin’s Creed Infinity universe, an online platform for future installments of the saga and other individual multiplayer experiences. Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be home to various games of different genres and lengths. It will mix premium games with free and paid content.

In Assassin’s Creed Infinity, there will be a multiplayer mode that will bridge the Eras of the franchise. And it will be where the modern history of Assassin’s Creed will now live. Infinity is not a video game, nor does it replace traditional Assassin’s Creed games. It’s a platform that will host past and future Assassin’s Creed entries, starting with Codename Red.

“You can buy [Codename Red] as a stand-alone product,” confirms Côté, Assassin’s Creed VP of Executive Production.

So Infinity is more of an Assassin’s Creed launcher than anything else. Still, instead of displaying the games as a library-like collection, like on Steam or Ubisoft Connect, Infinity will masquerade as an in-universe Animus interface.

New entries in the series will be shown as DNA memories instead of games. Côté points out that we should expect Infinity to be more than just an Assassin’s Creed-themed launcher and evolve.

“So [Infinity] won’t start as a game,” says Côté. “The version of Infinity that we release will not be the final version of Infinity. It will evolve as our experiences grow, and we can connect them more with each other. So I think it opens up a world of possibilities as far as what we can do goes way beyond just being a launcher for our different games.”

Ubisoft hasn’t revealed more information, so it’s currently unclear if Ubisoft is planning the return of the multiplayer modes from the Ezio years or like co-op missions from Unity. But one thing for sure is that they are not expected until 2024.
