The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by CD Projekt RED is one of the most successful Role-playing games ever been launched. Initially launched on May 18, 2015, The Witcher 3 was not only a financial success but also a fan favorite. 7 years since its launch, there are still uncovered mysteries in the game and even today the visuals hold up quite well.
Another noticeable game that CD Projekt RED had been working on for quite some time was CyberPunk 2077. After the immense success of The Witcher 3, fans were really hyped for CyberPunk. Two main reasons being the early looks really seemed out of this world and the amount of time it took for development was massive. However, in 2020, it was released with the worst possible reviews and bugs that made it unplayable. It was even removed from consoles for some time.
Consequently, CD Projekt RED lost the immense reputation they had gained for Witcher 3. But it was revealed by CDPR, that they had been working on a next-gen graphical update for the Witcher 3. Although it was promised to release in 2021, CDPR was unable to do it. However, CDPR’s in-house team wasn’t directly working on the next-gen update as the responsibility was handed over to Saber Interactive’s office in Russia. According to the latest announcement by CD Projekt RED, the game’s development has been taken back from the Russian studio and they had dedicated an in-house team to work on it and evaluate the amount of work that is still required.
We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice. 1/2

Despite this, they have announced that they won’t be able to deliver the game by Q2 2022 as it was promised. And for any further details, we’ll have to wait for more announcements. One thing that is quite clear is that we can’t expect the game any time soon as it has been delayed indefinitely. Although the delay has been extended quite a lot, the fans are quite easy with it as they want the best version unlike the fiasco with CyberPunk 2077.
It should be noted that CD Projekt RED is also working on a new Witcher game as they announced last month. It won’t use the previous game engine instead it’ll be based on Unreal Engine 5 to avoid any unwanted results. We don’t have any exact release date for either The new Witcher game and The Witcher 3 next-gen version. For that, stay tuned for any further announcements or reveals by CDPR.
