Following last year’s Activision merger, Xbox began to plan its domination of mobile gaming. It confirmed intentions to work on a mobile gaming store, with Activision’s catalog serving as the backbone of this store.
Nearly a year later, the gaming giant has yet to share many updates on the store. However, references to the mobile store have been spotted online, confirming that an announcement is coming soon.
Why it matters: With this move, Microsoft hopes to become a Google and Apple competitor. This would allow it to cover all bases and continue dominating as one of the world’s biggest tech companies.
A webpage for the Xbox Mobile Store is now live. While it currently displays a short message, Microsoft confirms that members of the Xbox Insider Program will be among the first to gain access.
Previously, Xbox promised to launch the mobile gaming store by July. While this may not have happened, August should be a huge month for the gaming giant as it works toward fulfilling a major goal.
With Candy Crush, Call of Duty Mobile, Diablo Immortals, and more expected to be offered, this store could soon become a huge platform for mobile gaming. Microsoft could also offer various other perks for Xbox users on the platform.
Very recently, Xbox added Modern Warfare 3 to Game Pass. Following this addition, it’s clear that plans are in motion to utilize the Activision Blizzard merger to its fullest extent.
More games like Crash Bandicoot are rumored to arrive on Game Pass soon. With the mobile store now on the horizon, this is just one more addition to Xbox that is coming as a direct result of the nearly $70 billion deal.
