Story Highlight
  • DeepCool has been sanctioned by the United States for allegedly aiding Russia’s military efforts in Ukraine.
  • The sanctions claim the company sold over $1 million worth of products to two Russian companies linked to supporting Russia’s military.
  • DeepCool claims they stopped doing business with the Russian companies as soon as they were added to the U.S. blacklist.

DeepCool, a popular maker of PC cooling systems and power supplies, has been penalized by the United States. The U.S. State Department announced sanctions on June 13, 2024, claiming the company sold PC products to Russia that could aid its military operations in Ukraine.

Why it matters: These sanctions represent a notable increase in efforts to limit Russia’s military capabilities during the Ukraine conflict.

According to the U.S. government, DeepCool provided goods valued at over $1 million to two Russian companies, Aktsionernoe Obshchestvo Taskom and OOO Novyi Ai Ti Project.

These companies are alleged to support Russia’s military efforts in Ukraine. Taskom focuses on freight transport, while OOO Novyi Ai Ti Project manufactures PCs. The products sold by DeepCool are listed on the Common High Priority List (CHPL), which includes items considered at high risk of being used for Russia’s military purposes.

These sanctions mean DeepCool cannot operate in the U.S. anymore, stopping all sales and activities in the country. This includes support for current customers. U.S. residents and businesses are now barred from doing any business with the company.

Any ongoing deals will be stopped right away unless they have a special license from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

Deepcool also responded to the whole situation. According to the company, they sold computer parts to OOO Novyi Ai Ti Proekt until September 14, 2023. After this date, OOO Novyi Ai Ti Proekt was added to the SDN list.

Following this designation, the company stopped doing business with them. Before this happened, there were no rules preventing sales to OOO Novyi Ai Ti Proekt.

Regardless, DeepCool’s U.S. branch could be shut down soon, impacting its ability to serve customers in North America. Major retailers such as Amazon, MicroCenter, Best Buy, and Newegg have stopped selling DeepCool products.

So, if you were looking to purchase any of DeepCool’s new products showcased at Computex 2024, you’re out of luck. It’s unclear how the company’s worldwide operations will be affected in the long run, but right now, losing business in one of the world’s biggest markets is a significant setback.
