Story Highlight
  • Fans have really enjoyed the recent Xbox Showcase and Ubisoft Forward 2024.
  • The creator of the God of War has suggested that Sony purchase Ubisoft to compete with Xbox’s upcoming lineup.
  • The recent State of Play failed to deliver, and Sony is currently relying on third-party exclusivity to make up for limited first-party output.

While we have seen significant gaming events in the last few weeks, excitement around PlayStation was missing from the discussion. Xbox debuted various new titles like Doom, Fable, State of Decay, and more.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft shared more on Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Following these events, it’s easy to notice the barren PlayStation first-party lineup. God of War creator David Jaffe suggests Sony consider new acquisitions to solve this issue.

Why it matters: PlayStation is no stranger to acquisitions. However, it has yet to buy a huge publisher. With Xbox already buying Activision and Bethesda, this is a viable option for Sony.

Ubisoft Still Has Some Great Games Left For Fans In 2024

Soon after Ubisoft Forward 2024, the God of War creator, David Jaffe, tweeted how Xbox and Ubisoft have done well to offer an impressive showcase.

He appreciated the latest trailer for Star Wars Outlaws and stated that he’s excited about the new entry in the Assassins Creed franchise. David Jaffe also left a piece of advice for Sony in the same tweet.

Nobody saw it coming, but David Jaffe thinks PlayStation should buy Ubisoft.

Hey, Playstation-here’s how you compete: open up the checkbook, buy Ubisoft.

David Jaffe, who previously worked on Twisted Metal and God of War, two iconic PlayStation IPs, has been known to offer critical thoughts on PlayStation.

He seems to have found the recent State of Play boring. The former developer believes PlayStation’s current lack of first-party exclusives can be alleviated by a purchase like Ubisoft. This is the same strategy that has allowed Xbox to expand its portfolio recently.

Ubisoft Owns Several Major Gaming IPs

Although the PS5 had big exclusives like Helldivers 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth this year, its biggest in-house studios have not been able to offer much recently.

PlayStation’s future lineup does not seem too big either, with only a handful of titles likely ready for release. Meanwhile, Ubisoft already has games like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake announced for the future.
