Story Highlight
  • The GeForce RTX 5080 will reportedly launch a few weeks earlier than GeForce RTX 5090.
  • Nvidia followed the same launch strategy for Ampere.
  • The power output of these high-end cards ranges from 250W to an incredible 600W.

It has been reported that Nvidia is preparing to introduce its latest offerings to the GPU market: the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. According to sources, these two new high-end card releases are anticipated to be released together, possibly within a single month of the year.

Why it matters: Nvidia always debuts two of its most important flagship graphics cards in a single year. However, there have been conflicting reports surrounding the RTX 50 series.

According to past reports, the GeForce RTX 5080 is set to debut before the RTX 5090.

The latest update suggests that Nvidia is looking to launch both of these cards within a few weeks. While not much else is known, it seems the gaming giant is indeed returning to a similar strategy used for Ampere.

Back in 2020, it launched the RTX 3080 before the RTX 3090, even though both were announced at the same time. Moreover, Nvidia is currently determining which cooling system to add to its upcoming GeForce RTX 50 series of graphics cards.

The power output of these high-end cards ranges from 250W to an incredible 600W. Before you imagine your electricity bill going through the roof, keep in mind that these figures are related to the maximum amount of heat these cards can handle.

In any case, this discovery is exciting since it suggests that we may soon get a first look at the RTX 50 cooling solutions.

The launch of the high-end GeForce RTX 50 series will then be followed by Nvidia’s mid-range options like the GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5060. While there is no actual information regarding the performance of these cards, the latter could be a great mid-range option.

However, Nvidia would have to price it just right to ensure the graphics card satisfies the market after the disappointment of the RTX 40 series and its Super counterparts.
