Story Highlight
  • Analysts have praised Stellar Blade on a technical level.
  • The game looks great and runs well at the same time.
  • It does not follow the typical trend of launching with bugs and needing fixes.

In this era, a game with great visuals, combat, narrative, and performance is hard to come by. While it should have been the norm for such games to exist, unfortunately, that isn’t the case.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin are the latest examples of such cases. The former has many performance issues, while the latter falls apart completely on a technical level. However, Stellar Blade has proven to be the complete package.

Why it matters: There were some concerns regarding performance as the developer was unknown compared to the biggest AAA studios, but the team has managed to surprise everyone.

The reviews are already out, and the overall reception has been really positive. Furthermore, the title has been highly praised for its launch, which had no bugs or performance issues.

Digital Foundry has done an in-depth analysis of the game, deeming it to be an ultra-polished release. The video is full of praise, highlighting that such a launch is a rarity in this era of gaming.

As an Unreal Engine 4 release, Stellar Blade shows no stutters or hiccups. The loading time is fast, and, of course, the character models are quite detailed. Another impressive part is the performance.

Shift Up manages to offer nearly locked 30FPS and 60FPS gameplay in the respective modes. The game runs at fairly high resolutions of 4K and 1440p with some DRS in both modes, further adding to the feeling of a polished experience.

Stellar Blade
Stellar Blade Received Criticism For Its Main Character, But The Reviews Are Mostly Positive.

The title can still drop frame rate in heavier sections, so there is some room for improvement. However, the gameplay remains solid for the most part.

The only major complaints seem to revolve around Eve’s character design and the game’s lack of original ideas. We disagree entirely with the former, but the latter is a fair critique.

Still, Stellar Blade shows that a game without the most original ideas can still succeed if it nails existing concepts into a polished gameplay loop. This is exactly what Shift Up has done, and the team deserves praise for achieving such a high standard with its first console game.

Stellar Blade also captures the charm of older character action games from the early 2000s, making it a joy to play for fans who miss the likes of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta.
