- Cyberpunk 2077 has changed its perception three years after its release.
- Following years of updates, CDPR says that it’s happy with the state of the game.
- The team has now moved on, with only 17 developers supporting the RPG.
Cyberpunk 2077 was released over three years ago and has seen a massive comeback. It went from a game that was often ridiculed to being considered a Game of the Year contender.
After spending nearly three years on fixes, CD Projekt RED appears to have finally found peace. According to the studio, it is quite happy with the state of Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty DLC.
Why it matters: Phantom Liberty also has a huge impact on the comeback of the franchise.
During a recent investor briefing, it was stated by the CD Projekt chief strategy officer Adam Kiciński that they are finally happy.
We are finally happy – since last year – with the state of the game.

This is the main reason behind CDPR’s decision to move on.
The team had already confirmed it would move on from development not too long ago. However, its latest update confirms that a mere 17 developers have been left behind to ensure Cyberpunk 2077 stays healthy.
Since this is less than 10% of CDPR’s total development team, the game is practically receiving no attention. However, CDPR has certainly earned its rest after redeeming the project.
Cyberpunk 2077 has nearly ascended to the status of a billion-dollar franchise.
CDPR endured many hardships on the path to redemption. The studio was publicly criticized all over the industry, becoming an example of what not to do. Ironically, Cyberpunk 2077 has now become exemplary for future RPGs.
We believe the game’s success will soon make it worth over $1 billion, making it one of the industry’s finest IPs.
The game has already crossed over 25 million sales, and its expansion has sold over 5 million copies in less than three years. In hindsight, Cyberpunk 2077 always had the formula for an incredible RPG.
However, CDPR’s rushed release meant that it could only reach its full potential in 2023. We hope the team can expand on concepts like multiplayer, which were left out, in the next game, making it a worthy successor from the get-go.
