- Dragon’s Dogma 2 has managed to overtake Resident Evil 4’s peak concurrent player record.
- The game has reached over 184K concurrent players
- This is the highest peak concurrent player count for any Capcom game.
Amidst controversies regarding Dragon’s Dogma 2’s performance and microtransactions, the game has managed to break a massive Capcom record. With over 184K concurrent players at launch, this RPG has managed to top Resident Evil 4’s player record.
Why it matters: Resident Evil 4 is widely regarded as one of the best games Capcom has ever released, so Dragon’s Dogma 2 moving past it is nothing short of impressive.
Resident Evil 4 managed to attain a peak concurrent player count of 168,191 players. However, Dragon’s Dogma 2 reached a higher figure within hours of launching on Steam.
This player count is interesting since the latest release is Dragon’s Dogma’s first new entry in a new decade. Meanwhile, Resident Evil continues to receive new releases every few years.
Considering the game has just launched and the weekend is right around the corner, we expect this RPG to eventually reach 200K concurrent players. It is also important to note that a large audience is likely present on the consoles.
However, Dragon’s Dogma 2 faces the threat of losing players amid review bombings on Steam. Following poor performance and microtransactions, most players seem to be upset. Capcom’s latest release has already gathered thousands of negative reviews as a result.
The microtransactions seem like a recipe for disaster in a single-player game.
This has become an unfortunate trend in the gaming industry. Massive AAA releases mostly launch in a broken, unoptimized form, failing to justify their $70 price tag.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s initial reviews were really positive, and we hope Capcom can turn things around through a future update that addresses all the community’s concerns.
