- Spider-Man: The Great Web, a co-op multiplayer game from Insomniac, was leaked last year.
- The game was canceled before it could begin development, but a pitch trailer showed up recently.
- Another trailer of the project has been leaked online, showing just how much potential it had.
Since last year’s Insomniac Games hack, many of the studio’s plans for games like Spider-Man 3, Marvel’s Wolverine, and more have been surfacing on the internet.
Several months later, the leaks haven’t stopped. Recently, a trailer for Spider-Man: The Great Web was found in the documents, and just 24 hours later, a second trailer of the project was leaked, showing that the game could have been incredible.
Why it matters: Helldivers 2 has already shown the potential of PlayStation’s live-service projects. With Spider-Man’s inclusion, the gaming giant could have had another major hit on its hands.

Among last year’s leaks, it was already confirmed that the Spider-Man multiplayer game had been canceled, but no footage of the game was shared at that time.
However, both of the trailers look impressive and polished. Though these are likely to be internal pitches for Sony, we believe this trailer shows that Insomniac Games almost struck gold.
The footage shows the co-op world Insomniac Games envisioned. Much like the first gameplay, it uses existing assets and explains The Great Web. It was said that this game was positioned as a universe similar to GTA Online.
However, with Spider-Man’s abilities thrown into the mix, the potential for fun was unlimited. This video also features narration by Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lowenthal.
Unlike the previous footage, this trailer seems more focused on The Great Web and the narrative elements. With rifts opening up across the world, the studio intended to introduce villains like the Sinister Six to this live-service title.
As an ongoing title, Insomniac Games could have introduced new villains, cosmetics, characters, and abilities to Spider-Man: The Great Web. This would have kept the experience fresh and engaging. However, it seems the studio did not have a proper plan to realize these ambitions.
We hope to see Insomniac incorporating such elements into Spider-Man 3. While the developer may not be able to work on a primarily multiplayer game, some form of co-op in the next game could be an incredible new introduction.
