  • The Xbox boss has confirmed Starfield and Indiana Jones aren’t going multiplatform.
  • Four games have been chosen for the multiplatform approach.
  • Xbox won’t be quitting exclusivity but expanding by launching a few other games on various platforms.

After over a week of speculation in the industry, Xbox has finally released its much-anticipated business update. In the 20-minute podcast, Phil Spencer revealed the way forward for Xbox amid the exclusivity rumors.

Xbox isn’t going all out by killing off all exclusives. In fact, massive titles like Starfield and Indiana Jones won’t be going to PS5, as confirmed by Spencer.

Why it matters: This confirmation means that the biggest Xbox IPs are safe from Microsoft’s third-party approach.

In the podcast, Phil Spencer confirmed that a total of four games will be launched on the other consoles.

He also confirmed this would not be a fundamental shift in Microsoft’s exclusivity strategy.

Spencer further went on to say that the decision was made keeping in mind the long-term health of Xbox, growing the platform, and building the best platform for creators. However, he dropped a subtle hint toward these four games.

All these games are at least one year old, and a few are community-driven. This indicates the rumors might have been accurate to a certain extent. Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, in particular, seem to be the two major titles out of the four revealed.

The other two games are smaller titles, but if we were to guess, they could be Pentiment and Grounded. All these games have reached their full potential on PC and Xbox, according to Spencer. This makes them ideal for multiplatform releases.

However, a major point is that the Xbox boss didn’t rule out future titles coming to other platforms. He said that expanding the player base has always been Microsoft’s fundamental value, and they will continue this going forward.

Still, it is good to learn about Xbox’s future. The gaming giant maintaining exclusivity will only enhance the competition in the industry and improve the circumstances for consumers.
