Story Highlights
  • Xbox has released some of the best exclusive games in recent years.
  • According to a compilation of various exclusives, Xbox has had more than PlayStation this generation.
  • A total of 130 exclusives have been released for both consoles.

Xbox has built up a massive library of exclusive games this generation, when including both first and third-party titles. While PlayStation has an equally compelling lineup, Microsoft is not looking to be left behind.

The latest generation only began three ago, but Microsoft has already launched 70 exclusives for the Xbox Series S|X. This figure puts it ahead of the competition from the PS5.

Why it matters: With Activision Blizzard now at Xbox’s side, its exclusive output could grow significantly over the course of this generation thanks to the other studio under this publisher.

This report comes from Baiisun. The user has spent many hours gathering the list of exclusive games released for Sony and Microsoft’s current-generation platform. According to the report, PlayStation offered a total of 60 exclusives thus far.

This includes both first-party and timed-exclusive releases. Therefore, while a game like Guilty Gear Strive is now on Xbox, it is counted as an exclusive in the list. The same also holds true for Xbox-timed exclusives.

Overall, the list concludes Xbox had the higher exclusive count. However, there was never a lack of great games to play on either platform. PlayStation has released the likes of Demon’s Souls and Horizon Forbidden West since 2020.

On the other hand, Xbox launched Starfield, Redfall, Hi-Fi Rush, and Forza Motorsport in just one year. This list will receive several more additions soon since Microsoft already has a compelling first-party lineup for 2024.

The report also notes a total of 109 exclusives have been announced/released for Xbox this generation. Using the same criteria, PlayStation’s exclusive count comes out to around 105.

Both platforms had highly-rated games, but PlayStation’s exclusives pulled ahead in terms of average critical reception with a score of 77.8/100 on OpenCritic. Xbox’s games scored 74.8/100 on average.

When combined, over 130 games have been released exclusively across both consoles. Around 80 games have also been announced as future exclusives for both platforms.

The report highlights the different values each gaming giant is offering to the respective ecosystem.

PlayStation is currently more focused on individual games, while Xbox is still based around Game Pass. On that note, over 40 day-one titles have been confirmed for the subscription in 2024.

Ultimately, whichever platform gamers pick, there will rarely be a shortage of great games to paly.
