Update:

PlayStation has officially announced the State of Play. Scheduled for 31 January at 2 PM PT, it will focus on Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. However, since the showcase lasts for 40 minutes, plenty of other games are also expected.

Original Story:

Leaker Nick Baker, in the most mysterious yet the most obvious way possible, has leaked what seems to be the roster for the PlayStation’s upcoming State of Play. Rumors and speculation about this event have been making the rounds for a while.

The latest leak practically confirms the event, listing games like Silent Hill 2 Remake and Death Stranding 2 after the latter was expected to be showcased with a new trailer.

Why it matters: Last year’s PlayStation showcase was considered underwhelming by audiences. However, according to the leak, Sony is looking to begin 2024 with a much better State of Play, redeeming its last showcase.

Here is a list of the titles Nick revealed:

  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Death Stranding 2
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
  • Sonic Generations Remaster
  • Silent Hill 2 Remake
  • New Metro Game
  • Judas

Rise of the Ronin is nearing its release, so something for the game was already expected. Similarly, another popular leaker alluded to more Death Stranding 2 information, revealing the game’s official title last week.

Silent Hill 2 was also heavily rumored for the State of Play. As expected, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will not be missing either. However, the new Metro game should be quite interesting as it is expected to be a VR game.

Ken Levine, the creator of Bioshock, is returning with Judas. This game caught everyone’s attention in 2022 with a reveal reminiscent of Bioshock. Since the game is expected to arrive in 2025, PlayStation might debut the first gameplay at State of Play.

Death Stranding 2

Other than that, a massive name missing is Stellar Blade. This is one of Sony’s biggest exclusives for the year, and it was expected to launch in the first half of 2024.

The lack of Stellar Blade could mean that the game is again heading toward a delay. Still, Nick Baker reckons that the list could be missing a game or two, so there is still hope for developer Shift Up to show up at the event.

The State of Play is reportedly scheduled for 31 January or 1 February. In any case, these dates are right around the corner, so an official announcement could be made any moment now.
