In a recent PlayStation x Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth collab, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 7 Remake became its highest-selling digital release on the PS store. During the collaboration, it was announced that the Sony Bravia XR will be the official TV for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Why it matters: Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a true success for Square Enix. The sales numbers are expected to reach new heights if the game does end up launching on Xbox, as predicted by an insider.
Since its initial launch, the game has surpassed seven million units in worldwide sales. It was also announced that Final Fantasy 7 Remake received perfect scores from 20 media outlets. Furthermore, this remake won PlayStation’s Editor’s Choice award in 2020.
Final Fantasy 7, in general, has been a massive success for Square Enix. Last year, director Yoshinori Kitase announced that the original game had sold more than 14 million units. If we add up the sales of the remake, the total number of units sold would be 20 million.
Currently, the remake is only available on PlayStation and PC. Releasing the game on Xbox could potentially generate more revenue for Square Enix. Many reputable insiders claim that the game will launch on Xbox; it’s just a matter of time.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be a standalone game in the modern trilogy. It’s set to offer an even more ambitious experience, expanding the adventure to The Forgotten Capital from the original game.
The director is confident that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will make its players lose their minds.
He also confirmed that the game will offer more than 100 hours of content. It will introduce new playable characters, such as Cait Sith and Red XIII, with Vincent and Cid making appearances as well.
If players bring over their saved data from Final Fantasy 7 Remake, they’ll get the Leviathan Summon Materia. And if they carry data from the Yuffie episode in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, they’ll score the Ramuh Summon Materia.
Regardless, Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s new sales record sets high expectations for the latest JRPG. The upcoming installment in the franchise is shaping up to be another massive success for Square Enix on 29 February.
