Like others in the tech industry, Meta is becoming increasingly focused on AI. Following past efforts, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has decided to shape the future of artificial intelligence as the company announces the development of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence).
After generative AI, this particular area of the IT industry has become extremely popular, pushing businesses like Meta and OpenAI into fierce competition.
To achieve a cooperative and cohesive approach to AGI, Mark Zuckerberg also revealed some reorganization inside Meta’s AI-focused personnel when he announced the merger of the FAIR (Fundamental AI Research) division with the company’s AI department.
Hoping to meet the demands of expanding into next-generation markets and enhancing its current resources, such as the company’s Llama LLM model, Meta has announced a fresh round of talent acquisition.
Mark Zuckerberg stated in his message that the business will acquire about 350,000 of Nvidia’s state-of-the-art H100 AI GPUs by the end of this year. This graphics card has sold like hotcakes recently, with Nivida selling half a million in a single quarter of 2023 alone.
Meta itself has accumulated quite the arsenal of AI GPUs, boasting around 600,000 H100s of comparable computational power when adding the 350,000 GPUs to its already available options.
The number provided by Nvidia is astonishing. Meta’s Chief Scientist, in the midst of all of this, says that Nvidia is providing the weaponry for the continuing AI battle, and Meta has a “decent” GPU arsenal to fight the competitors in the market.
